Phonics

In year 1 children receive 1 hour of phonics every day. This is spread over two lessons, the first is a teacher led session where children are asked to recognise and vocalise the focus phonics sounds. We use quick fire flash cards and an interactive programme on the interactive whiteboard. At St Mary’s we are following the Floppy’s Phonics scheme, and make great use of the resources within the scheme. We also provide extra activities for further consolidation of phonics sounds.
